Permits
As authorized by the Ohio Revised Code, the County Engineer requires that appropriate permits be obtained before commencing certain activities within the road right-of-way. There are currently no fees for any of the permits issued through our office. Once a permit is completed and submitted to our office via email fax or in person, please allow two weeks for processing. More information about each permit is detailed below.
In addition to those permits listed below, there may be other permits/approvals required from state and local agencies for those who build or develop property in rural Miami County.
SPECIAL HAULING PERMIT (OVERWEIGHT / OVERSIZE) (PDF)
Anyone wishing to transport an overweight or oversize load in a vehicle on County and/or Township roads must complete a Special Hauling Permit. Information required for the permit includes the size, loading, and configuration of the vehicle’s cargo. Miami County has established specific routing for overweight/oversize vehicles, and these routes will be designated on the permit. If needed, assistance is available at the County Engineer’s Office in completing the permit. To view or print the permit, click on the link above.
DRIVEWAY / ACCESS PERMIT (PDF)
Anyone wishing to install an access onto a county or township road must complete a Driveway/Access Permit. You may view and print off a copy of the permit by clicking on the link above, then bring the permit to the County Engineer’s Office for assistance in completing the form.

GENERAL PERMIT TO WORK IN ROAD RIGHT OF WAY (PDF)
Anyone wishing to install items or excavate ground located within a County or Township road right of way must complete a General Permit to Work in Road Right of Way. However, this permit is not required if a Driveway/Access permit has been issued, or if a standard mailbox is being installed (standard mailbox definition is detailed on the back of the Driveway/Access Permit). You may view and print off a copy of the permit by clicking on the title above, fill in the information as much as possible, then bring the permit to the County Engineer’s Office for assistance in completing the form.
Anyone wishing to enclose a ditch located within a County or Township road right of way must complete a Ditch Enclosure Permit. The permit will stipulate the conditions for ditch enclosure, including necessary pipe size. You may view and print off a copy of the permit by clicking on the link above, fill in the information as much as possible, then bring the permit to the County Engineer’s Office for assistance in completing the form. If residents wish to enclose a ditch located on private property, outside the road right of way, a zoning permit may be required.
This permit is required when: (1) you have an existing access onto a County or Township road way that has never been assigned an address, or (2) you have an access onto a State highway. In the latter case you must bring your approved access permit into the County Engineer’s Office in order to be assigned an address. The Driveway/Access Permit is used to assign addresses. A separate address permit is not required when a Driveway Permit is issued. You may view and print off a copy of the permit by clicking on the title above, fill in the information as much as possible, then bring the permit to the County Engineer’s Office for assistance in completing the form.
