Does my dog have to wear his/her license tag?: Yes. First of all, it is the law. Also, wearing the license tag is the quickest way for your dog to be returned to you if he/she becomes lost.

1. Does my dog have to wear his/her license tag?: Yes. First of all, it is the law. Also, wearing the license tag is the quickest way for your dog to be returned to you if he/she becomes lost.

2. Do you accept credit/debit cards as payment?: Yes, the Miami County Animal Shelter accepts credit/debit cards (there is a 2.7% processing fee for credit/debit cards), cash, and checks with photo identification. No starter checks, please.

3. How soon are dogs available for adoption after they arrive at the animal shelter?: Dogs wearing current license tags must be held for 14 days. Dogs without license tags must be held 3 business days. After that time period the dog may be available for adoption and they are kept for as long as it takes and we have room.

4. What is a service dog?: According to the ADA (American Disabilities Act) effective 3/15/11 a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks directly to an individual person's disability.

5. Are emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals considered service animals under the ADA?: No. Because they have not been trained to perform a specific job or task. However, some State or local governments have laws that allow people to take emotional support animals into public places. Please check with your State and local government agencies for more information.
